When magic arrives, it comes unexpectedly.
After work on January 2, I walked into Times Square, hoping to see the ball that millions of people saw drop two evenings before. Instead, I saw something that made me giddy with joy.
As I walked through the plaza, I noticed that there were colored pieces of paper everywhere on the street. It wasn’t until I looked up the street that I saw confetti blowing from the top of the MTV building. I was as spellbound by it as a child seeing Santa for the first time.
It felt like fairy dust raining down in the middle of New York City. I didn’t have to stand outside for hours to feel excitement—the celebration next ended. Exhilaration met me exactly where I was. How lucky I am to live and work in a city full of surprises.
When I thought about how to kick off a new Goodness of the Week series, no other moment quite captivated me as much as this. What an enchanting way to usher in a new year.
